At least eight miners were reported dead in an explosion at coal mines in Sanjdi area in the outskirts of Quetta. A mining official said on Monday that the authorities were expecting the death toll to rise since rescue work was still underway to recover six more miners trapped in the rubble. The bodies of the dead were recovered on Monday morning. “The explosion was caused by accumulation of methane gas,” Iftikhar Ahmed, the chief inspector of mines in Balochistan, told Reuters. “The miners were working at the depth of 400 feet at the time.”
