ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan will hear PML-N leader Khawaja Asif’s appeal against disqualification today.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had earlier disqualified the former foreign minister on the grounds of holding a work permit from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Asif had challenged his disqualification decision on the SC earlier this week.
Asif, in his review petition, rejected the IHC decision against him by saying that he unintentionally failed to disclose his foreign work permit in his nomination papers.
He has requested the court to declare the IHC judgment null and void.
The verdict which disqualified Asif for not mentioning his foreign employment in his nomination papers was given on April 27.
He was disqualified by the IHC under Article 62 (1) (f) of the Constitution for hiding his employment in a UAE company and the monthly salary he was receiving.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Athar Minallah had announced the verdict.
The IHC ruled that Asif was not qualified to contest the 2013 general election from NA-110 as he did not fulfill the conditions described under Article 62(1) (f) of the Constitution, read with Section 99(1)(f) of the Representation of People Act 1976.
